ABOUT
The Migrant Crops workshop at MHiC, led by Epicuro Lab, explores the intersection of geopolitical shifts and agricultural practices, centering on rapeseed cultivation as a key focal point. It engages small-scale growers, local consumers, and participants interested in the ecological and social impacts of food production. The workshop creates a participatory space for reflection on the concept of biocenosis—the interconnected community of living beings—through the lens of rapeseed as a "planetary proletarian biocenosis," a crop that is exploited and modified to serve human interests without recognition or rights.
This activity is part of the Imagining Futures cluster of activities for Manifesta 15, in collaboration with the MHIC.
DURATION: from 5 to 7 PM.
Epicuro Lab will explore the concept of biocenosis (a community of living organisms) through the cultivation of rapeseed, regarded as the best example of what could be called a global proletarian biocenosis: a community of plants that work for their "masters" without rights or recognition, a crop created and modified to serve our interests without any other consideration.
During the workshop, participants will engage in a series of collaborative activities in the museum's gardens and orchards, designed to encourage reflection and dialogue.

ABOUT EPICURO LAB
Epicuro Lab is a collaborative art collective composed of the unconventional scientist and landscape artist, Gabino Carballo, and the art producer and curator Tatiana Kourochkina, who is also the director of Quo Artis. The collective was created in 2022 following their collaboration on the Roots & Seeds XXI project.
With a multidisciplinary approach, Epicuro Lab works within the field of urban ecology, where nature is controlled by human practices, often excessively so. Epicuro Lab creates ephemeral works and expands knowledge about biodiversity in urban environments. Starting from the phenomenon of plant allelopathy, Epicuro Lab began its collaborative work with Claudia Schnugg in a Community Allelopathy workshop, as part of the participation of Roots & Seeds XXI at Ars Electronica.
